Team fit free smoke alarms

FIRE officers in Bridlington are blitzing the area to bring home the message about fire safety.

Brian Johnson, who retired after 30 years in the service, is being joined by Dave Dillon and Martin Conley in visiting Bridlington residents to offer fire safety advice and fit free smoke alarms and low-energy light bulbs.

Brian said both he and Dave were glad to return to the fire service after retirement to help others learn from their experience.

"It's nice that after 30 years in the fire service, our knowledge isn't going to waste because of retirement," said Brian.

"I think people don't realise we're actually giving this equipment away for free, and the smoke alarms are extremely good solid units, with modern functions such as a hush button.

"We're blitzing Bridlington to try help prevent fires and we are staying here until we've seen as many people as we can," he added.

The officers will be operating around the South Back Lane and Gypsey Road area in the coming week and will try to cover as much of the town as they can over the next few weeks.
