Singer Edwina Hayes on Hollywood film soundtrack

FROM Bridlington to Hollywood – it is a huge step for musician Edwina Hayes.

She spent her teenage years in the resort and has gone on to enjoy great success, touring with Jools Holland and counting Michael Parkinson as one of her biggest fans.

Now one of her songs has been selected to appear on the soundtrack of a new box-office film.

My Sister's Keeper, which is out in cinemas tomorrow, stars Cameron Diaz and Alec Baldwin and is an adaptation of the poignant novel by Jodi Picoult.

The first song on the soundtrack CD is Feels Like Home, her cover of a Randy Newman song, which appeared on her album Pour Me A Drink.

Edwina said: "The first I heard about it was an email from a lady at Warner Brothers in California last July asking if I would give my permission for it to be used.

"Of course I said yes and she then told me it wouldnt be confirmed 100% until the flm was finished, which would be sometime in 2009.

"It was March when they finally confirmed it. Until then I tried not to tell anyone or get excited in case it didn't happen."

James Blunt and Jeff Buckley are among the other artists featured on the CD, which was released this week.

"I asked them how they heard about the song and they said that the director of the film himself had suggested it," said Edwina.

"I've no idea how he would have heard it, the only thing I can think of is that when Perez Hilton mentioned me on his website in February 2008, that somehow Nick Cassavetes heard it."

You can see Edwina perform back in Bridlington next month. She will be at Rags Restaurant on Friday, July 10.

Tickets are 10 including dinner, to book call 400355.
