Sightings of UFOs above Bridlington ... or are they Chinese lanterns?
IS there somebody out there?
UFO reports have come in from half a dozen or so readers who spotted something in the air during the Christmas and New Year holiday.
Last week we had reports of strange lights over the town on Christmas Day, mainly of an orange, yellowish ball which made no sound as it crossed the sky.
This week more reports have come in of similar sightings.
David Clayton, of Pinfold Way, spotted a strange orange light hovering silently above Bridlington on Christmas Day.
He called to his wife and they opened the bedroom window to get a better look at the unusual light.
"It was about 5.20pm when I noticed it in the sky just to the south of Bridlington," said David.
"There was no noise coming from it. It definitely wasn't a plane.
"I'd never seen anything like it before."
On New Year's Eve Dennis Ashby, of Jubilee Avenue, spotted a similar UFO near his home at the junction of Jubilee Avenue and Applegarth Lane about 7.45pm.
Meanwhile, Peter Jordan, of Bronte Walk, was looking out of his bedroom window just after midnight on New Year's Eve and he and his daughter Michelle saw groups of two or three similar lights, about 18 in all and some flashing, heading toward the town from Flamborough before disappearing inland.
Another reader, who did not want to be identified, has reported a similar object "flitting about" near the Morrisons store in Bessingby Road about 7.30pm on New Year's Day.
The Free Press has also had reports that the UFOs were probably Chinese Lanterns – paper globes powered by a small candle which, like a hot air balloon, glow and can flicker in the dark night sky.
They have become a popular addition or replacement for fireworks on special occasions.
