Search for helpers in horror fall at Danes Dyke

A TEENAGER wants to track down the people who helped her after a horrifying accident at Danes Dyke.

Kirsty Jackson fell 15ft down a rocky gully after losing her grip on a rope swing.

Now she wants to find the members of the public who stayed with her until an air ambulance arrived to take her to hospital.

Kirsty said: "I don't remember letting go of the rope swing, but I fell down a ditch, hitting one side and then the other and landing on the rocks at the bottom.

"My friends thought I was just winded but I couldn't move and struggled to breathe.

"There was a lady with her dad and two kids and she sat talking to me, trying to keep me awake because I had banged my head."

Initially, there were fears about Kirsty's neck and back – and she was put in a neck brace and on a spinal board.

Because of the difficulty in accessing the gully, an air ambulance was called to take her to Scarborough Hospital.

Fortunately, her injuries were not as severe as first feared, and she was released from hospital the next day.

But the ordeal, scarred not just Kirsty but also her mum Heather, who said: "When I got the phone call it was horrible, my worst nightmare.

"She's very lucky. She landed with quite a bang and we were worried she had done major damage to her spine."

As well as wanting to find the woman who stayed with Kirsty, they also thanked the emergency service crews involved in the rescue and her friends who helped out at the scene.
