Bridlington Leisure World will hold a free-of-charge open day this Sunday as it gives people a last chance to use the facilities before it closes for a multi-millon pound redevelopment.
The event is meant as a thank you to residents for their patience and support during the work and people can take advantage of free swimming, sauna and steam facilities and those who have already attended a gym induction can use the Tone Zone free of charge.
Although people will still be able to swim at Leisure World until it closes in January, this will be the final opportunity to use the wave pool and slides.
Councillor Richard Burton, portfolio holder for civic wellbeing and culture at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “Residents and visitors of Bridlington are being given the chance to benefit from a day of fun and free activities at the facility, as well as say goodbye to the venue.
“The redevelopment of Leisure World is a brilliant opportunity for the area and will attract more tourism prospects to this part of the East Riding.”
Darren Stevens, head of culture and information at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, added: “We are pleased to offer this celebratory open day to our valued customers of Leisure World, who have remained patient and supportive throughout the development plans.
“We hope that visitors will come on the day and take advantage of the free facilities, and we look forward to seeing them again when the venue reopens”.
Plans of the new £22 million redevelopment of Leisure World, which will be one of the most state-of-the-art facilities in the country, will be on display and people will also be able to sign up to a new e-newsletter to keep up-to-date with changes and progress of the new facility.
If things go to plan the new facility will open in the autumn of 2015 and feature a 25 metre, six lane swimming pool, two water slides, a 70 station fitness suite, a climbing wall, health suite including sauna and jacuzzi and a cafe.
