Recession blamed as Tastebudz shop shuts

A BRIDLINGTON delicatessen will close tomorrow for the final time after more than three years of trading in the town.

Tastebudz, at the corner of Springfield Avenue and Quay Road, sells a variety of organic foods, fine foods and gluten-free and wheat-free products but owners Chris Morris and Marilyn Pickersgill have had to shut – blaming the recession for their decision.

Chris said: "It's been a mixture of things including the rates and the rent.

"The landlord has been very supportive but you still have to pay the rates.

"There has also been a downturn in trade and from April onwards the number of people coming in here compared to last year is really down.

"We used to have a lot of caravan owners who came here in the summer because they had special dietary requirements but a lot said to us they wouldn't be coming to Bridlington anymore because they couldn't afford the ground rents to keep their caravans here.

"And with local people losing their jobs, they're not coming into the town either."
