QE2 remembered at hidden gardens event in Flamborough

FLAMBOROUGH residents revealed the hidden gems behind their homes in the village's recent Secret Gardens day.

A total of 382 was raised for St Oswald's Church funds during the event, which saw half a dozen residents throw open their garden gates to allow visitors the chance to stroll around their grounds.

Among the manicured lawns and potted plants was a homage to the QE2 – displayed in an outbuilding by Harry Dormer and his wife, Hermione, who both worked on the ship.

The couple sailed on its maiden voyage to New York in 1969 where Harry worked as a first officer and Hermione ran the travel bureau.

Irene Todd, of South Sea Road North, who has helped organise the annual open gardens event for several years, said this year's was another success.

She said: "The weather was lovely and the gardens beautiful.

"Many thanks to all who opened their gardens, we really appreciate all their hard work."

Each garden hosted a fund-raising activity including wine-tasting, plant-selling and raffles while refreshments were served in the church hall alongside cream teas at Northstead Lodge.
