Pothole-ridden road's £150,000 resurfacing
WORK will start next month on improvements to one of Bridlington's worst roads.
The winding, narrow and pothole-ridden stretch of Bempton Lane from the old windmill down to Buckton is to be widened and re-surfaced during October at a cost of 150,000.
East Riding councillor Richard Burton, who lives in Buckton, said it has been a cause for concern for years to himself and also to Bempton Parish Council.
"I have been pushing for something to be done about it. It has been the scene of two fatal accidents, it is a bus route and also a diversion route if there is a blockage on Scarborough Road.
"After the harsh winter there are even more potholes which cause many drivers to approach blind bends almost in the middle of the road," said Coun Burton.
Last year East Riding of Yorkshire Council put the road into their programme of repairs but said it could take up to nine years to be done.
At the start of this year it was announced the work could start within the next 12 months and now October has been chosen for the start date.
