Police and RSPCA investigate six horses left without water

REPORTS from concerned residents led to firefighters coming to the rescue of horses along Martongate who had been left without drinking water.

Shortly after 6pm last Tuesday the fire crew visited the field and used two hose reels to fill the horses' empty troughs with 35 gallons of water.

Police and the RSPCA had also received several calls from members of the public concerned about the welfare of about six horses roaming the area.

One caller claimed the animals had been without water for two days.

The police left the matter with the RSPCA and although the inspector dealing with the case was unable to comment, a spokeswoman said anybody witnessing neglect or cruelty to animals should report it to the charity on 0300 1234999.
