Planning appeal win for flats in Promenade, Bridlington

PLANS to build a four-storey property on Promenade have been given the green light following an appeal.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council refused planning permission in April last year following concerns that the residents of the planned twelve flats would suffer excessive noise from a pub and amusement arcade next to the site.

An appeal was lodged and after a site visit in December, planning permission was granted to the proposal which includes the demolition of an existing building to be replaced by a four-storey property housing shops on the ground floor and nine flats.

In his report, the planning inspector said he believed potential noise disturbance from the nearby pub, arcade and seafront bars, could be reduced by designing the building appropriately.

"The situation in regards to neighbours is not unique, and I am not convinced a new building could not be designed in such a way as to minimise noise intrusion to a reasonable level, bearing in mind potential residents would be aware they would be living in a vibrant seaside town centre location," he said.

Construction will not start until plans showing how the flats will be protected from noise have been submitted and approved by the planning authority.
