Pillar of shame unveiled
THE faces of yobs with Anti-Social Behaviour Orders were exposed to the public yesterday on a new town centre pillar.
Photographs of individuals and details of the ASBOs imposed on them appear on a public information pillar in Queen Street, Bridlington.
This pillar is the first of its kind in the country and its aim is to help members of the public familiarise themselves with the individuals concerned and report those who breach their ASBO.
The first three to be appearing on the pillar are Lewis Andrew Valentine, Jason Michael Colley and Darren Worgan.
Their details will appear for the next six months, however if they breach their ASBO their details will remain. The project is a joint venture between East Riding of Yorkshire Council's Town Centre Management and Bridlington
Neighbourhood Policing Team and is now being considered by the Home Office for police forces nationwide.
Insp Steve Jackson, head of Bridlington police, said: "We considered all legalities and without wishing to victimise individuals we feel these are the lengths we should go to in a bid to make our town a better place. We now hope other towns will follow our lead and make similar moves."
Also appearing on the pillar is other information such as underage drinking initiatives, and it will be in full view of CCTV in case of vandalism.
