HEARTLESS thugs have once again mindlessly smashed Bridlington's skatepark to pieces, going back three times to make sure they finished it off.

The big question that paperclip asks itself is, why?

Almost everybody in the town is unanimous when they say that young people need more to do - and nobody shouts louder than the youngsters themselves who when asked why they misbehave, they usually respond with a surly, “I’m bored, aren’t I?”

The facilities at the skatepark were created to make sure that youngsters do have some of the best facilities in the country.

Now paperclip doesn’t want to tar all youths with the same brush - but obviously the dodgy haircuts, bad tracksuits and text lingo are common to most - but whoever thinks it is fun to smash and burn everything they see before them obviously has problems.

After the Free Press last week launched it’s campaign to clean up Brid’s eyesores, the skatepark would have been the perfect place for businesses and other community groups to be proud of and aspire to.

All the hard work that the town council and other local people put in to get the thing built, from the first inception of the idea over ten years ago, has now literally went up in smoke.

Surely there is something that can be done to keep the kids in check.

We shouldn’t have to lock up all under 18’s after school, or have our police and PCSOs constantly out and about on patrol.

In fact for once, perhaps Paperclip is lost for words on what can be done to make the town a happier, safer and less damaged place.

So to change tack considerably, it’s finally nice to see some warmer, brighter weather in Brid.

But with the nicer weather, comes the early signs of the problems of summer - the slow walkers.

The daily rush to work, the lunchtime crush for a sandwich and the crawl home at the end of the day, all slowed up considerably by the hordes of people who treat the pavements like their living rooms.

Stopping to chat, to rummage through their bags or seemingly, just to intentionally get in your way, it seems these people have absolutely no idea how annoying they are.

All the swift, sensible people of Bridlington be warned - the slow walkers are returning.
