New secret garden in Bridlington

DO you want to know a secret?

There are plans for a new secret garden in the middle of Bridlington.

It is a secret because of its location, not because it is out of bounds to the public. In fact, the people creating the garden hope it will be used by as many residents as possible.

The community space is being established behind the Key Centre at Christ Church, which wants to gather together ideas for the site.

Vicar Jonathan Couper said: "We want the garden to be of value to all who come and for as many as possible to benefit from it and find it a safe place, where they can experience the peace and presence of God."

Once public opinion has been gauged, the church will look to make funding applications and the garden will be created by volunteers and people on placements.

The land was derelict for many years and was a target for drug use and rough sleepers.

The church hopes it will now become 'a remarkable bit of countryside in the the middle of town' when it opens next Spring.
