New chairman for Probus Club

THE Probus Club of Bridlington held its final lunch of the 2007/2008 session at The Expanse Hotel on May 1, followed by the 38th annual general meeting which was attend by 35 members.

After lunch the formal business meeting was held, including reports on a programme of future extra mural events for members and their guests by social secretary Gerry Athay and a programme of visiting speakers for the 2008/2009 session by speaker finder Ken Tunstall, which was virtually complete.

The finances were in good heart and subscriptions and meal charges for 2008/2009 were approved.

Secretary Barry Rowe reported that the current membership stood at 49 and was pleased to report new members had joined in the past year and that active links with Rotary and other Probus Clubs in the area had been forged.

The retiring chairman expressed his thanks for the great support he had received in his term of office from the club officers, committee members and the general membership.

He was especially pleased at the increase in membership and the fact tthe monthly meetings enjoyed a consistent 80% attendance.

He expressed his delight that Arthur Seymour, a founding member of the club from its inception 38 years ago, was present and he thanked him for his interest and help when needed.

He looked forward to the next session and the programme of social events over the summer period prior to the next luncheon meeting in October.

The present vice-chairman Harold Ingleson was then installed as the new chairman and he presented Trevor Owen with his retiring chairman's tie and pin.

He thanked those present for their attendance and he looked forward to a continuation of a thriving Probus Club with a stimulating programme of events during the coming year.

The next meeting of the club is in October at the Expanse.
