MP launches Beatles charity song
BRIDLINGTON'S MP Greg Knight and his musical colleagues have launched their first recording – and they can already count Tony Blair as one of their fans.
The Prime Minister was the first person to download the song by parliamentary rock band MP4, which features Mr Knight on drums.
His group has recorded a cover version of The Beatles' classic Can't Buy Me Love to raise money for Save The Children.
MPs are being invited to do download the song to learn about how music can be legally downloaded.
Mr Knight said: "With Live 8 we have seen musicians attempting to be politicians. This is the backlash – politicians making an attempt at being musicians."
MP4 is made up of Mr Knight and SNP politican Pete Wishart, Labour MP Kev Brennan and Ian Cawsey, the Labour member for Brigg and Goole.
Their new release was recorded live at Whitfield Street Studios, which was the – birthplace of the Clash's first album and the Spice Girls' Spice Up Your Life.
It is part of a four-track recording called House Music which has been released by EMI but it is not in the shops. At present it can only be downloaded digitally.
It was launched on a cruiser on the River Thames last week when MP4 performed a 30 minute set in front of MPs and peers.
Since they were formed, MP4 have helped to raise over 130,000 by performing at charity events in Westminster and they have been supported by Conservative Leader Michael Howard.
The band's cover of 'Can't Buy Me Love' can be downloaded at www.7digital.com/downloads/mp4 for 99p and all of the proceeds will go to Save The Children.
