More stations to go digital for Brid
DIGITAL radio users should be prepared to broaden their horizons with the introduction of several new stations to the Bridlington area.
Coverage for several national radio stations, including Virgin Radio, Classic FM and theJazz, will become available for digital radio listeners across Bridlington with the switching on of a new transmitter, which will take place at some point in the next two years.
The signal will be broadcast from the existing transmitter, which is stationed next to the A165 between Reighton and the Grindale turn-off.
Quentin Howard, chief executive of Digital One which is responsible for the signal, said: "With sales of digital radios nearly at 5 million, we felt the time had come to give even more listeners a chance to access the national commercial stations on our network.
"Digital radio users are going to get all these new stations which they have not had access to before, so it is going to make quite a big difference.
"The transmitter we are adding should cover the whole of Bridlington, and additionally, bring coverage to the area around it, but it does depend on where people are.
"It is, however, quite a large new area we are adding coverage to."
None of these stations are presently available to digital radio users in Bridlington, and will remain inaccessible to analogue radio users.
The new transmitter will be one of 10 dotted around the country, with other sites including Scarborough, Whitby, and Chesterfield.
