Staff at a building society were celebrating the branch’s 35th anniversary in the town.

The Yorkshire Building Society, in Prospect Street, opened in 1979 when the average house price was £19,925.

The current average is £124,117 for a semi-detached in Bridlington.

To mark the occasion, the team served tea and birthday cake to customers on Wednesday 22 January. Julie Johnson, Yorkshire Building Society’s branch manager, said: “We’re really proud to have been in Bridlington for 35 years and really enjoyed welcoming customers to celebrate with us.

“It is very much part of the Yorkshire’s values to have a strong branch network and we appreciate the connection that gives us to the communities we serve.

“We’ve lost count of how many mortgages and savings accounts we’ve created since we opened in Bridlington in 1979 but our aim remains very much as it was then - to offer our members great service, a competitive return on their savings and help them to buy their own home.”
