Marina plan approved by councillors - COMMENT ON THIS STORY
COUNCILLORS have given their blessing to the new design for Bridlington marina.
Members of the cabinet approved plans for the 320-berth development at a meeting on Tuesday.
Coun Stephen Parnaby, leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: "I am pleased we have been able to agree and that the partners can now develop the design alongside the Area Action Plan for Bridlington so that both can be put to public consultation before the end of this year."
George Traves MBE, chairman of Bridlington Harbour Commissioners, said he was pleased a way forward had been agreed to preserve the unique status of the harbour while developing its operational potential for the future.
It is the first time all parties have reached an agreement but not everyone remains convinced by the new design.
Long-time critic of the scheme Alex Thompson said: "If you build a new 20m Spa, why would you put a smelly fish quay next to it? It's bonkers, it's lunacy."
