Marina man steps down

THE chairman of Bridlington's Regeneration Partnership is to step down after 10 years in the job.

David Dowson, of Lloyd Dowson and Company Chartered Accountants in Quay Road, will not stand for office at the annual general meeting in May.

Mr Dowson said: "Bridlington Harbour Commissioners have made it a condition of their current involvement with and co-operation with East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Yorkshire Forward and the Regeneration Partnership towards getting a marina for the town, that I personally was not to be involved."

He crossed swords with the commissioners many times in the past over the council's original marina plans, which were thrown out after a public inquiry forced by the commissioners.

In a letter to the Regeneration Partnership, he added. "Perhaps in the past I have been too committed and sometimes aggressive in my relentless pursuits of a marina."

Mr Dowson, who lives in Jewison Lane, Bridlington, added: "All I ask not is that you do not let the marina opportunity pass you by. It must be brought to fruition hopefully by co-operation and not confrontation."

Although the marina issue has influenced his decision to step down, Mr Dowson also said after 10 years he is looking forward to spending more time with his grand children, and on the golf course, although he does intend to continue to support local regeneration schemes and events both

personally and through the family business.

"We have achieved so much as a Partnership during the past 10 years and have undoubtedly arrested the downward

spiral of the town and set it on the road to recovery and prosperity," he said.
