Police investigating the alleged theft of a handbag in Bridlington have found it was taken after it had been dropped.
Yesterday morning a 32-year-old man handed himself in to police, after an appeal was launched to find the person who allegedly stole 73-year-old Pamela Roddis’ handbag while she was visiting Bridlington from Sheffield.
The man has been interviewed by police and charged with theft of the handbag and contents.
DS Tom Napier of Bridlington Priority Crime Team: “Following a report of a lost handbag police made enquiries in and around the area of the Gala Bingo in the Promenade, Bridlington.
“CCTV footage showed the bag being dropped onto the ground, then a short time later a male is seen to pick up the bag from the ground.
“He made off in possession of the stolen bag. At no time did the female victim and the male offender have any physical contact with one another.”
“The handbag has since been recovered by police.
“I would like to thank all members of the public who assisted police with this sensitive investigation.”
Ms Roddis’s handbag was stolen on Sunday 26 January in Promenade.
The 32-year-old has been bailed to appear at Bridlington Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 19 February.
