Man, 22, critically injured in serious traffic collision on A1079 York Road at Bishop Burton

A 22-year-old man is critically ill in hospital this morning after the car he was driving was in collision with a tree on the A1079 York Road in Bishop Burton, East Yorkshire.

The incident happened at approximately 7.40pm on Thursday 14 August 100 metres west of the new college entrance at Bishop Burton.

It appears the vehicle was travelling towards Bishop Burton and as it approached the new entrance to the college the car left the road and collided with a tree before coming to rest on the roadside on its roof.

The young man was the driver and only occupant of a green Ford Fiesta and was trapped in the vehicle and required cutting out by the Fire and Rescue Service.

He sustained multiple injuries and was taken to Hull Royal Infirmary where he is described as being in a critical but stable condition.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the vehicle immediately prior to the incident is asked to contact Humberside Police on the non emergency number 101 referring to log 633 of 14 August 2014.
