A dedicated mum is celebrating after being named ‘Mum of the Year’ by Specsavers in Bridlington.
Kaye Walker was nominated for the award by her daughter Charlie, 7, and was presented with a selection of fantastic prizes worth £200 in the store on Tuesday.
Charlie, of Bempton Primary School, impressed judges with a beautifully written letter, outlining how her Mum Kaye Walker is the ‘best Mum in the world who shines brighter than the sun, who bakes cakes that tastes as good as treacle and how she will love her forever.
Bridlington’s Mum of the Year, Kaye said: “This is such a lovely surprise especially as I had no idea Charlie had entered me into the competition.
“I’m certainly looking forward to enjoying my prize – Mother’s Day is going to be extra special this year.”
The store received more than 30 admirable letters from children nominating their mothers to be in with the chance of winning some fantastic Mother’s Day prizes, valued at £200.
In fact the entries were so good, Specsavers created two runner-up positions because picking one mum was proving to be a very hard decision.
Mark Kunz, at Bridlington Specsavers, comments: “Charlie’s letter was so touching and wonderfully written.
“She captured our hearts and did a wonderful job of portraying just how much her mother, Kaye, means to her.
“We were blown away by the volume of entries and the quality of them that we have decided to create two runner-up positions – Bridlington youngsters are very lucky indeed to have some wonderful mums.”
Winner Kaye will receive a Mother’s Day Pamper package including a bunch of flowers from Petals Florist, a meal for two at Ferns Farm in Carnably, a haircut and manicure from Dreams Hair and Beauty and a free pair of designer specs from the Bridlington Specsavers.
The two runner-up Mums are Shirley Wilkes and Sandra Hales who have both won a box of chocolates, bottle of wine and a pair of designer glasses.
