Help shape the future of coastline
HOW do you think our coastline should be handled in the future?
There is chance for Bridlington people to find out what others think and to put their ideas forward at a drop in meeting at Bridlington Spa on February 23.
It is one of a dozen sessions being held up and down the east coast by the Marine Management Organisation (MMO) which has been formulating the UK’s first marine plans covering the entire area from Flamborough head to Felixtowe.
“The aim of the drop in sessions is not for the MMO to say what should happen but for local people to tell us what they want their marine area to be used for,” said a spokesman.
The marine plans will then give marine developers and other users more certainty on appropriate uses in the marine area, taking into account leisure activities such as sailing and diving, along with the need to conserve and protect marine species and habitats. They could mean more revenue for coastal communities as the marine economy is currently worth more than £47 billion pounds a year to the UK.
The MMO said it has already spoken to local authorities about their plans and now wants to hear from residents about what is important to them. The session on Thursday February 23 is open between 11am and 3pm and 5pm to 8 pm
MMO planners will be there to answer questions, and people can see large scale maps of the area and a 3D model of marine activities.
Families enjoying the half term break are welcome, and colouring activities will be available to keep children entertained.
