A former news reporter has swapped her pen for a pair of pliers to launch her own hand made jewellery business.

‘Fandangle’ was founded by former Driffield Times & Post reporter Sara Morton less than three months ago and this Saturday she will showcase her collections of upcycled jewellery at Driffield’s Sensational Saturday Maker’s Market for the first time.

Sara took the plunge and fulfilled a long held ambition of setting up her own business after becoming a first time mum 12 months ago.

“Journalism was something I had been doing for the best part of a decade but after taking a ‘break’ to start a family I decided it was time to start a new chapter in my professional life to reflect the hugely exciting new chapter that had begun in my personal life,” Sara said.

“I’ve always been creative and jewellery making is something I’ve had an interest in since I was a little girl.

“I started out making necklaces and bracelets for friends and family while my baby napped. But now, thanks to the power of social media, I’ve been able to expand my customer base and am now selling my unique pieces all over the world.”

“I’ve turned a corner of my garage at home into a workshop where I’m usually busy designing new pieces in between nappy changing and bottle washing,” she added.

All of Sara’s Fandangle creations are upcycled from various second hand objects including sheet music, vintage vinyl records, old dominoes, spare pocket watch parts, old coins and keys.

Sara said: “I love the idea of finding something that is unwanted and turning it into something that is loved once again.

“With a little bit of imagination the possibilities of what everyday objects can become are endless.”

Fandangle will be one of up to 50 stalls at the Sensational Saturday Maker’s Market at Cross Hill, Driffield.

“I’m really excited about taking part in the Maker’s Market – this will be my first ever stall and I can’t wait to showcase my work.

“The market is a perfect platform for local businesses such as my own and really shows off what superb talent the Driffield area has to offer.”

“What better way to spend a Saturday than browsing a large range of stalls selling so many fantastic products right here in Driffield?”
