Fund-raiser Colin is all heart

TEN years after receiving life-saving heart surgery, Colin Marsh is marking the anniversary of his operation with a year of fund-raising for the British Heart Foundation.

Colin, 53, of Cardigan Road, underwent a quadruple heart bypass when he was just 44 and endured further surgery last year to clear two main arteries in his neck.

He is showing his gratitude by organising a series of fund-raising events for the British Heart Foundation in Bridlington throughout this year, culminating in a big party event next June on the 10th anniversary of his first operation.

"This is my way of giving something back," said Colin.

"If it hadn't been for the research done by organisations like the British Heart Foundation, then I certainly wouldn't be here today."

Colin has already staged fund-raising quizzes at Applegarth Court where he works and he is hoping to put together a gala show at the Spotlight Theatre.

He also sings in a group, Eight to the Bar, produces and acts in plays and said he is looking forward to involving his theatre friends in future fund-raising activities.

"I've not set any target because I don't want there to be any disappointment if we don't reach it, so I'm just going to raise as much as I can," he said.

Colin is also working on an Elton John tribute act and will donate the fee for any performances to the British Heart Foundation.
