Brave fundraisers are gearing up for a cold Boxing Day Dip in Flamborough next week, though they will have their fingers crossed that a local woman, who has travelled from the other side of the globe to take part, will bring the Australian weather with her.

Hannah Emmerson, 22 and originally from Flamborough, has lived in Australia for the last two years but is currently back in the UK awaiting the approval of her residency Visa before she can return.

Hannah said: “I’m really excited about doing the dip, I come from the village and me and members of my family went to the pre-school so it is a cause close to my heart.

“I’m used to swimming in hotter places than this and I’ve not been in the North Sea for a while but I’m really looking forward to it.

“I think that whenever I’m back for Christmas, the Boxing Day dip is something I’d like to do.”

The Boxing Day Dip raises money for Flamborough Pre-School and organisers are hoping this year’s event will create an even bigger splash of cash.

This year the dip will have a Disney characters theme with dippers set to don all manner of colourful fancy dress outfits.

Helen Broadley, Committee Chairperson at the pre-school and one of the organisers of the event, said: “We want Boxing Day to be a day that local people and visitors really look forward to, full of lots of community activity and traditions.

“We are very grateful to the Longsword dancers and Flamborough RNLI who are once again supporting our event and of course all our dippers and spectators.”

To register for this year’s event please collect a sponsorship form from ‘The old Tuck Shop’ in Flamborough or The Rose and Crown pub. Dippers and spectators are asked to gather at South Landing for 10.45am with the dip starting at 11am.

The Longsword Dancer’s tour begins at the Rose and Crown pub in High Street at 12.30pm and then along to the Seabirds pub in Tower Street, the Victoria Club in Chapel Street, finishing at The Royal Dog and Duck.

This year the dippers and supporters can park for free at the South Landing car park on Boxing Day morning.
