East Riding College work is nearly complete

WORK on East Riding College's new £17million Bridlington campus is nearly finished.

Contractor Wates has completed all the main structural work and is now well into the finishing stages of the project.

Many rooms have already been plastered, vinyl has been laid in the kitchen areas, reception desks are being made and the external landscaping works will follow shortly.

All fittings – such as sinks, wall finishes and colour schemes – have been approved and ordered from suppliers.

Members of the public will be invited to tour the state-of-the-art new building at a series of open events in August, with details of these to be revealed soon.

The campus will be fully operational and ready to welcome its first intake of students in September.

Staff training has been ongoing for several weeks and will continue into the summer.

Richard Sellick, project manager for the college, said: "This is an exciting time for the college and the students and staff are really looking forward to moving across to the new campus.

"We are looking forward to showing off this fantastic new building to members of the public and prospective students at our open days in August."

The new college building will have 44 teaching rooms, as well as an extensive library and IT facilities and a new sports pitch with changing facilities.

Subjects to be taught at the new campus will include construction studies, engineering, art and design, IT and business and catering.

Work officially started last July.

The 6,200sq metre building has been put up on the grassed area at the front of the site in St Mary's Walk and the existing buildings will be taken down.
