POLICE in Bridlington have taken thousands of pounds more cannabis off the streets after another substantial discovery of 37 plants in Flamborough.

Officers from Bridlington’s Neighbourhood Policing Team continued their drug crackdown throughout the festive break and supported members from the Incident Response Team (IRT) in forcing entry to an industrial unit.

The unit, on Bempton Lane Industrial Estate in Flamborough, was raided at 9.35am on Wednesday last week.

The plants seized by police were in two separate stages of development.

One batch was in an insulated grow tent inside the industrial unit and contained seven relatively young plants.

The second was located in the toilets at the rear of the unit, and contained 15 mature plants.

A separate area in the unit was located by police, who found 15 more fully grown plants in the process of drying out.

A quantity of herbal cannabis, a Class B drug, was located in this area.

PC Mark Skelton, of the Bridlington Neighbourhood Police Team, confirmed no arrests had yet been made, but investigations were ongoing, led by CID.

He said: “Again, another several thousand pounds of drugs have been taken off the street prior to their distribution. Despite the festive period, we have continued the ‘war on drugs’ in Bridlington. We will be relentless on the issue in 2013.”

PC Skelton also encouraged members of the public to continue to provide police with information to help the force in their battle against drugs.

Humberside Police can be contacted, anonymously if needed, on the non-emergency number 101 or through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Cracking down on Bridlington’s drug problem has been a priority for police in the town since Insp Grant Taylor took over as the head of Bridlington’s Neighbourhood Policing Team in July 2012.

Before Christmas, a “substantial haul” of 99 juvenile cannabis plants with a potential street value of thousands of pounds were discovered by police in an upstairs bedroom of a house in the Well Lane area of town.

A further bedroom and an under the stairs cupboard were also set up ready for further drug production.
