POLICE in Bridlington are warning car drivers in the town to steer clear of the bus station.

Complaints have been made to police by members of the public and East Yorkshire Motor Services that motorists are using a route through the bus station, between Marshall Avenue and The Promenade.

Now officers are reminding everyone to abide by the access only signs clearly displayed on Marshall Avenue.

Those motorists that use the bus station as a cut-through run the risk of being stopped by police officers and issued with a £30 fine.

PCSO Mark White said: “Humberside Police advise drivers not to use the bus station as a cut through.

“Members of the public using the entrance to the Promenades at the Bus station have had several close calls with vehicles going straight through.

“Bridlington Neighbourhood Police team will engage in several enforcement days and drivers caught contravening the access only signs will run the risk of being fined.

“This is initially a warning for drivers to adhere to the road signs. Don’t end up with a fine.”

Bob Rackley, commercial services manager at East Yorkshire Motor Service, the company that runs bus services from the station, said: “We would echo the comments of the police and ask drivers not to come through the bus station.

“It has been a problem for quite a while, with cars using the bus station to cut through from Marshall Avenue through to Promenade instead of going round.

“You have a lot of pedestrians who use the area, and who come out of the shopping centre to cross to the bus stops and they don’t expect to see cars coming through.

“It can get quite congested in the station, especially over summer.”

Humberside Police can be contacted with any concerns on 101.
