Daffodils fund-raiser

BRIDLINGTON Lions Club is helping Marie Curie Cancer Care celebrate 60 years of caring by collecting donations for silk daffodils at Tesco.

The supermarket has chosen Marie Curie to be its charity of the year and staff and customers aim to raise 2.5million nationally by the end of the year.

Lions club members will be holding daffodil collections tomorrow and on Saturday from 10am-4pm.

Local community fund-raiser Cheryl Barrett said: "It's fantastic to have the Lions Club helping in our diamond anniversary year.

"Both the Lions Club and Marie Curie Cancer Care work hard to improve the quality of life for local people, so we really appreciate their efforts.

"This will help to raise thousands of pounds and more awareness of our home nursing service in the local community."

Daffodil collections will also be held on Saturday, March 8 in Bridlington town centre as well as in Boyes, and in both of the town's Sommerfield stores.

Also, 10p from every specially-labelled card bought from the Tesco standard range of greeting cards will go to the charity, as will a donation from fresh speciality daffodils and 2 from a Marie Curie Cancer Care spring bouquet from.tesco.com

The charity is eager to hear from anybody willing to volunteer their time to help run the stalls or fund-raising events.
