A SPONSORED head shave saw three Tesco staff members losing their long locks in aid of a cancer charity.

James Hope, Ryan Birk and Richard Fellows all had hair which fell below their shoulders before they had it shaved off on Wednesday 31 October, raising £500 for Cancer Research UK.

Checkout staff member Belinda Wilkinson took the hairdressing role and shaved their heads at the front of the Station Approach Tesco store, Bridlington.

The fund-raiser brought the total raised this year by Tesco Bridlington for Cancer Research UK to over £8,000.

Anna-Marie Jenkinson, Bridington community champion at Tesco, said: “I think that at this time of year they are brave to get it done. It took a little bit of persuading but they were very good sports.

“There are so many people who suffer from cancer and it would be nice to get it cured.

“Thank you to everybody who supported our event.”

Richard Fellows went a step further and also had his beard and moustache shaved off to begin his Movember fund-raiser on Thursday November 1.

Tesco staff will be cycling to Lapland in December using an exercise bike to tot up the miles from the warmth of Bridlington’s Tesco store.

By February 2013 Tesco Bridlington aim to raise £10,877 for Cancer Research UK, which is the company’s charity of the year, and are currently well on their way to achieving the target.

Launched in 1988, the Tesco Charity of the Year programme has raised over £60 million for good causes, thanks to the generosity of its customers and staff.
