CROWDS of festive fund-raisers gathered on Christmas Day for the 46th annual December dip in the North Sea.

Over 300 people came to Bridlington’s North Beach to watch 50 brave revellers take the plunge in aid of charity.

The Christmas Day Dip raised £674 on the day for Clic Sargent, a children’s cancer charity and ReMarkable Kids theatre group, Bridlington.

Janet Connelly, along with her family, organise the well-established Bridlington event, which was started by the father of her late husband Warwick Connelly who died three years ago.

Janet, 66, from Bridlington, said: “It was possibly the best dip ever. It was such a miserable morning and we thought that maybe the crowds wouldn’t have got down but it was heaving.

“The beach was packed and the crowds were very generous. I can’t describe what the atmosphere was like - it was just incredible.

“Christmas wouldn’t be the same without it. It is incredible that people break off what they would normally be doing to come and support it.”

Clic Sargent provide cancer care for children and young people through clinical, practical, financial and emotional support.

The ReMarkable Theatre Company is a community based theatre group, which provides free theatre places to young people in Bridlington, incorporating the children’s theatre group Spotlight Musical Theatre Kids.

Janet requested all sponsorship money be handed in for the final total by January 31. It can be dropped off at Gallery Hair, Hilderthorpe Road, Bridlington.
