Campaign to cut road deaths

A HARD-HITTING campaign targeting motorcyclists has been re-lauched by Humberside Police to cut the number of deaths on our roads this summer.

Operation Achilles sees the force use a variety of high-tech equipment to track motorists breaking the speed limit, including the police helicopter and top of the range motorbikes fitted with speed cameras.

After Operation Achilles was first introduced in 2004, Humberside Police saw a 43% decrease in motorbike fatalities.

PC Glen Dennis, Casualty Reduction Officer, said: "Although the numbers of serious road traffic collisions are decreasing force-wide, a large proportion of these collisions happened on East Riding roads.

"Humberside Police are still dealing with a large number of unnecessary deaths and serious road traffic collisions in the East Riding and I am pleased to announce Humberside Police has joined forces with Safer Roads Humber and the East Riding Council to raise the profile of this operation and educate road users and motorcyclists."
