Bus ploughs into Bridlington restaurant
Leoz ps1206-20 Bus Crash Leoz
A BUS smashed into the side wall of a Bridlington restaurant after the driver suffered a suspected heart attack.
The bus crashed into Leoz restaurant, on Promenade, at around 5.30pm on Wednesday evening. It was not carrying passengers.
The driver, in his 60s and from Bridlington, was taken to Scarborough Hospital and treated for a heart problem and injuries to his leg. He is said to be in a stable condition.
Bob Rackley, commercial manager at East Yorkshire Motor Services, said the crash was an “unfortunate and very rare occurrence”.
“Thankfully there were no passengers on the bus and nobody else was hurt inside the restaurant, or on the street around it,” said Mr Rackley.
“Regrettably damage has been caused to the restaurant, and the damage to the bus is quite serious - it was a bit of a mess.
“We wish our driver a speedy recovery and we will support him as much as we can, after what was such an unfortunate incident.”
An investigation into the accident has been launched.
The bus was the 512 service from Bempton Lane, which had finished for the evening and was heading back to the EYMS depot off Bessingby Road.
