Burlington Junior School earns national arts award
PUTTING art into school life has earned a junior school national recognition.
Not only art but music, dance and drama helped earn Burlington Junior School the Arts Council England's Artsmark Silver Award.
The school, in Marton Road, Bridlington, has a choir, orchestra, and clubs in dance, drama, animation and a guitar club.
It also arranges visits to arts galleries, has taken part in workshops and performances at Bridlington's Spotlight Theatre, dance workshops and performances at Bridlington Arts Festival.
Pupils also took part in a beach art project and an Indian arts workshop.
To receive an Artsmark, a school must dedicate a minimum of 10% of its teaching time to the arts. Burlington's Silver award represents 12%.
According to the national body's chief executive, Alan Davey, the arts council believes the earlier children are creatively inspired the more likely they are to have a lifelong interest in art.
"Artsmark sets the standard for an outstanding arts offer in schools and it is great to see so many new schools attaining the award this year.
"It recognises Burlington Junior's passion for the arts and belief in the power of creativity," he said.
Here are just some of the pupils showing off their artistic talents.
