Bridlington School students to restore twin town link

FOUR Bridlington School Sixth Form students and their teacher will travel to Bridlington's twin town of Millau over half term to restart a twinning link between the school and two schools in Millau – the College Marcel Aymard and the Lycee Jean Vigo.

The visit has been organised by Clare Gardiner, Head of Foreign Languages at Bridlington School, working closely with the Bridlington-Millau Twinning Committee.

Between 1991 and 1996, more than 200 pupils from Bridlington School experienced life in the Southern French town and this visit is preparing the way for future school links to coincide with the celebration of 20 years of twinning in 2011.

To help them on their way, the Twinning Association has donated 250 to go towards the fares for the students.

Chairman Chris Myers said "The Twinning Association is delighted Bridlington School is restarting this link which was so successful and brought so much pleasure to the youngsters and families of both towns in the '90s.

"We hope it is the start of a long and happy relationship between the schools."

The students – Josh Asquith, Lydia Marston, Lewis Rayner and Kim Muncey – all study French A Level and have a packed programme to look forward to including a day in lessons with their French correspondents, a visit to the world famous Millau Bridge and drinks with the mayor.

Staying in their correspondents' homes will give the students a real taste of French life "en famille" and will be a true test of their French outside the classroom.

Josh said "We're really looking forward to going to Millau and although we're a bit nervous about going to lessons, it'll be great for our French.

"We'd like to thank the Twinning Committee for helping us with this cheque – we've been fundraising like mad to try and keep the costs down and this'll really help."
