Bridlington scooter rider fined

A SCOOTER rider who took to the roads of Bridlington without realising his CBT test had expired has been ordered to pay over £200 by magistrates.

Scott Alexander Watmuff, 35, of Stepney Avenue, Bridlington, was spoken to by a police officer after the Vespa he was riding was involved in a collision on Sewerby Road in November 20.

Watmuff was taken to Scarborough Hospital after the collision, in which he claimed to have ended up on the bonnet of another car.

Police officers discovered that as Watmuff's CBT had expired his provisional driving licence did not effectively qualify him to drive the scooter on public roads.

Watmuff told the magistrates: "My bike was my pride and joy and I never realised that my CBT had run out, although I have now taken responsibility for that.

"I have learnt a painful and very expensive lesson. I have told my friends what had happened and two of them are also re-taking their CBT tests."

He was fined 200, ordered to pay court costs of 40, a 15 victims surcharge, and his licence was endorsed with six points.
