Bridlington’s agency branch of national banking chain Santander is set to close.
Santander UK has made the decision to close its complete network of 139 agencies nationwide, 20 of which are in Yorkshire.
As a consequence, the decision includes the Bridlington Agency, based at Bridlington estate agents D Dunk Lewis & Graves on Chapel Street, which will formally close in June of this year.
Santander has contacted all its customers advising them that their banking services will now be attended to either ‘online, telephone or mobile banking services or through the nearest branch’ – which is based in Driffield or Scarborough.
Richard Dunk, of D Dunk Lewis & Graves, said: “Not only are we shocked by the decision to close the total UK Agency Network and we are desperately concerned for all of the Santander Agency Clients up and down the country who will be losing their local banking facility.
In particular here in Bridlington, we have over 2,500 clients and serve over 1,500 customers each month who have literally over night had their banking facilities withdrawn and will now have to travel either to Driffield or Scarborough.
“We took on the old Bradford & Bingley Agency in 1985 and have been looking after our customers since that date and we are really sorry that the decision to close the Bridlington Agency has been forced on us by Santander UK, which will bring a great deal of inconvenience to our loyal customers.
“As to the future we will be exploring the possibility of new banking facilities
from our Chapel Street premises.”
Santander’s decision does not affect the Estate Agency business of D Dunk Lewis & Graves which is not connected to the banking group.
