Bridlington roads to close for resurfacing work

SEVERAL roads in the Bridlington area are to be closed temporarily for re-surfacing to be carried out.

Work on sections of Main Street and Church Lane, in Sewerby, as well as Sewerby Road, Sewerby Heads, and Fortyfoot in Bridlington, is due to get under way on Monday, February 18, and is expected to be completed by mid-March, weather permitting.

It is part of East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s 2012-2013 programme of road improvements which will be carried out by Streetscene Services.

Tarmac will be replaced up to a depth of 200mm, while a section at the bottom of Church Lane needs a full- depth reconstruction.

To minimise disruption the work will be carried out in three phases, but the roads affected will need to be closed which is likely to affect access to some properties and parking.

In phase one all of Main Street and Church Lane, Sewerby, will be closed for around 19 days from February 18.

Alternative routes will be through Martongate, Wheatley Drive and Sewerby Road, Bridlington.

From March 11 Phase two will see parts of Sewerby Road closed for around two days. The road will shut from the junction with Greame Road eastbound for 375 metres to the entrance of Sewerby Grange Hotel.

Alternative routes will be put in place through Main Street and Church Lane, Sewerby, Martongate and Wheatley Drive, in Bridlington.

And in phase three, from March 13 for around eight days, Sewerby Heads will be closed from its junction with Sewerby Headlands to Sewerby Road roundabout. Fortyfoot will also shut from the junction with Iona Road to Sewerby Road roundabout. Alternative routes will be via Fortyfoot, Queensgate, St Aidan Road, St Augustines Grove, Sewerby Avenue, Marton Road, and Sewerby Heads.

Working hours will be 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday and no weekend work is expected.

Access will be maintained at all times to Sewerby village and Sewerby Hall.

Pedestrian access should remain unaffected and all businesses will be open as usual.
