REAL ale fans in Bridlington have reason to celebrate after a pub in the town was commended by a national body.

The Marine Bar, on North Marine Drive, received the runner-up award for the best town pub in Hull and East Yorkshire by real ale champions CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale).

Paul Bennett, manager at the Marine Bar, said he and his team were “really pleased” with the award.

He said: “This has only been possible because of the whole team at the Marine Bar and especially our loyal real ale drinkers, who are the reason we are able to champion real ale from countless small brewers, especially Wold Top and Timothy Taylor.

“Congratulations to the winners, Green Dragon in Beverley.

“Special thanks go to Ian McLean who has worked hard over the years at the Marine Bar to campaign for real ale, a movement that he and we are passionate about.

“Unlike national lagers and beers, real ales live and breathe, they give a very special pleasure, but only if they are well looked after.

“It is a measure of the team’s skill, and of Ian’s ability in sharing his knowledge with the team, that ensures that real ales at the Marine Bar are there to enjoy at their very best.”

The Telegraph Inn on Quay Road and The Prior John on Promenade joined The Marine Bar in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide 2013.
