Bridlington health trainer up for national award

A HEALTH trainer who has been instrumental in providing a pioneering scheme to improve the health of the town’s fishermen has been shortlisted for a national award.
Natalie Belt, health service manager at Humber NHS Foundation Trust has been shortlisted for an NHS Leadership Recognition Award.
The peer-nominated national awards aim to recognise and celebrate outstanding leadership across the system and to share good leadership practice.
Natalie said: “I am thrilled to be recognised nationally at this level. I can’t believe the prestigious judging panel which includes chief executives form the Royal College of Nursing, the Care Quality Commission and Public Health England now know who I am and what we do here in the East Riding.”
Natalie, who heads up the team based at the Health Trainers shop, on Quay Road, will compete in a category that recognises outstanding leaders who have put the community at the heart of everything they do.
Natalie is well know locally for her role in leading the health trainers and played an integral part in the Bridlington-based fishermen’s health trainer project.
The pilot project was launched last summer to offer basic health checks at the harbour.
And this latest award shortlisting comes just weeks after Natalie picked up the award for inspirational leader at the Humber NHS Foundation Trust’s staff awards.
Jane Fenwick, chairman of Humber NHS Foundation Trust, said Natalie was thoroughly deserving of this latest accolade.
“Natalie is a true leader in that she has a vision and she takes everyone with her. She is creative and innovative with her solutions and her focus is always on improving the health and wellbeing of the East Riding community.
“Natalie has developed a strong team of health trainers who deliver patient-centred services, motivating local people to lead healthier lifestyles. This includes supporting people to eat healthier, reduce their stress levels, lose weight and give up smoking.
She also leads a committed team of community health champions, volunteers who with training and support are empowered to transform health and well-being in their communities.”
Prior to the awards ceremony a film crew will visit Bridlington to film Natalie supporting her team while providing health checks to fishermen.
They are also likely to film the health trainer shop, on Quay Road for which Natalie secured funds to open earlier this year with Bridlington being the first town in the country to offer one to one support to the public in this way.
The awards ceremony will be held at the Great Hall, Barts, London in December.
