BRIDLINGTON MP Greg Knight has visited Buckingham Palace to be officially appointed Vice-Chamberlain of the Royal Household, by Her Majesty the Queen.

As Vice-Chamberlain, Mr Knight acts as a link between Parliament and the Queen.

He is responsible for keeping the Monarch updated on what is happening in Parliament as well as formally conveying messages between the House of Commons and Buckingham Palace.

Last week, Mr Knight had a private meeting with the Queen for 10 minutes and she presented him with his wand of office.

He said: “It is a great honour to be appointed to this role, especially in this Diamond Jubilee year and I look forward to serving both the House of Commons and the Queen.”
