Brid mayor’s Christmas card design winners
CHILDREN in Bridlington have been using their art skills to get into the festive spirit by entering the mayor’s annual Christmas card competition.
Pictured are the winners of the competition which this year saw more than 200 entries, all of which are now on display at the Promenades Shopping Centre.
And this was the first year, due to the popularity of the contest, that second and third place prizes were also offered up to the best entries.
This week the town mayor Councillor Michael Charlesworth paid a surprise visit to the winners at their respective schools to present them with their prizes.
Coun Charlesworth praised the standard of entries and said visiting the winner was incredibly rewarding.
“It’s so rewarding going around the schools and seeing their faces, they hadn’t been told that we were coming so it was a nice surprise,” Coun Charlesworth said.
“It was so difficult picking a winner as we had 211 entries. They all should have got a prize but unfortunately we couldn’t afford to do that,” he added.
Rhys Granton, seven, of Martongate Primary School was crowned the overall winner and his design will now feature on the cards sent out by the mayor.
Rhys has won a family ticket to the Spa pantomime of Beauty and the Beast and £50 of Argos vouchers.
Evie Ripley, eight, of Bay Primary School was awarded second place and has won £30 of Argos vouchers, while Emma Oldroyd, 13, from Bridlington School took third place and £20 of Argos vouchers for her Christmas card design.
The competition, which was open to anyone aged between five and 16, was officially launched back in October.
