Bradley making a good recovery

BRIDLINGTON schoolboy Bradley Marshall is doing well almost four months after returning from pioneering cancer treatment in America.
Bradley, 10, went for specialist proton therapy treatment on a tumour at the base of his spine last summer in Florida, but is now building back his fitness.
Bradley is going for a post treatment MRI scan later this month though doctors say it may take a year to finally confirm the tumour has stopped growing.
It’s clear that Bradley and his family are moving forward and are positive about the future.
The Burlington Junior School pupil is back playing football, has taken up fencing and is playing golf, a pastime he practised on some of America’s top courses during his near nine weeks on the other side of the Atlantic.
Bradley’s mum Dawn Marshall, of Kingsgate, said: “Bradley took the treatment all in his stride and we tried to make the trip a positive experience for him.
“We experienced American life, tried all the food and explored everything that was on offer.
The family visited Disney World and the Kennedy Space Centre whilst in Florida, got to see some of the state’s alligator population, Bradley learned how to fish and even caught two sharks!
Bradley travelled to America after the NHS provided the £130,000 needed for the expensive treatment at the Proton Therapy Institute in Florida.
The proton therapy has a 87% success rate and works better than conventional radiotherapy because it targets the cancerous cells more directly causing minimal damage to the surrounding tissue.
The family are still involved with Kids ‘n’ Cancer, a charity which offered much support during what has been a difficult time for the Marshalls.
Earlier this month Bridlington Young Farmers presented a cheque for £461 to Bradley on behalf of Kids ‘n’ Cancer, raised through a charity duck race in Boynton last year.
Support for the charity has also flooded in from other groups with the Revelstoke Hotel promising to donate the proceeds of a golf tournament in June to the cause and the organisers of Bridlington’s Got Talent pledging cash from this year’s event to the charity.
