Bempton road to get £18k upgrade
A NARROW road near a village school, which was described as 'a terrible mess' earlier this year, is to be repaired.
Coun Richard Burton said he was delighted 18,000 of work was to be carried out near Bempton School in the next few months.
In February, he said School Lane was dangerous and began lobbying for improvements to be made.
He said: "I'm pleased the highways department has found the money to do this work.
"There were large potholes, but the roads were narrow and when the new school was built it had to deal with more traffic.
"The road was never wide enough, and with parents parking it became a much busier area, and people were going on to the grass verges, so it was urgently needed.
"It's a good example of where ward councillors, the parish council and local residents can all work together to achieve a good result for the village.
"It will be much better and is good news for the village. The highways department says the work will be done before October."
Coun Burton said the problem started when the village school moved a few years ago, and although maintenance work had been carried out, a more long-term solution was needed.
