Award for Hornsea Museum
HORNSEA Museum has recently received the welcome news that it has been officially accredited by the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA) and has been presented with its certificate of full accreditation.
The museum's fame is spreading for its recently opened outstanding collection of Hornsea Pottery, and also has displays featuring the history of the town, local characters, industries and North Holderness villages.
The Museum Accreditation Scheme sets nationally agreed standard for all museums in the UK. Hornsea Museum's award proves that it measures up, meeting the guidelines on how it is run, how it looks after its collections and the services it provides to its visitors.
Honorary curator Catherine Walker, on behalf of the Museum Trustees, commented: "This really is an excellent achievement and something to celebrate especially as, in 2008, the museum celebrated its thirtieth anniversary.
"It is reassuring to know that this museum is exceeding such exacting national standards of stewardship.
"I'm sure that many people do not realise that Hornsea Museum is run almost entirely by volunteers and this award endorses all of the hard work that they do.
"The MLA's accreditation scheme sets a hallmark of quality for visitors and users of museum services in areas of care and documentation of collections, how they are governed and managed and on the information and services we offer to users.
"We hope that this recognition will generate opportunities that will allow us to continue to develop the services we provide.".
Mark Wood (Chair of MLA) said: "Being awarded full accreditation is an impressive achievement. It recognises the high standard and service that Hornsea Museum provides and acknowledges the hard work of the staff. Many congratulations!"
The volunteer staff at the museum are looking forward to another successful season and urge you to make a visit if you haven't already done so. And if you feel you could contribute, as a volunteer, to the museum's running, please pop in for a chat.
Hornsea Museum re-opens for Easter, from Saturday, April 4through to the end of September, plus the October half term; Tuesdays to Saturdays 11am-5pm and Sundays 2pm-5pm. Last entry 4pm. Closed Mondays except bank holidays.
