Attacked cat's leg amputated

A CAT needed its leg amputating following a suspected attack which left its shoulder "hanging off".

One-year-old Tia was found with the horrific injury by her owner Carmen Butterworth in Cleeton Way and she is now urging owners on the New Pasture Lane estate to keep an eye on their pets.

"We thought she was just playing in our shed but when she wouldn't come into the house for her dinner I went out to get her," said Carmen.

"When I found her, her shoulder was hanging off and her foot was all bent and broken. It was just awful.

"There was no blood or cuts or anything to suggest she'd been hit by a car and I'm certain she was kicked by somebody."

Carmen said Tia's injury was particularly distressing for her children, five-year-old Sophie and Bradley, 14.

But there was more bad news to come when, several days later, the family's other cat, Felix, limped home also suffering from a leg injury.

"He was clearly in pain but thankfully it's not as bad as Tia's injury," said Carmen, who added that her brother had gone out into the fields around the estate to make sure nobody had been laying animal traps in the area.

"In the space of a couple of weeks two of my cats have come home injured and I think there's somebody out there giving cats a good kicking," said Carmen.

"I'd advise pet-owners to be careful and to keep an eye open so maybe we can catch whoever is doing this.

"They should be ashamed of themselves," she added.

Tia is adjusting to life with three legs but struggles to jump after having about a dozen stitches removed from her shoulder last Friday.
