The Bridlington inshore lifeboat was launched to assist lifeguards recover two girls who had been cut off by the tide on their inflatable.

Bridlington RNLI were called at around 1.30pm today (August 12) after the girls were stranded half a mile away from south beach.

Lifeguards were first on the scene with the help of paddleboards following their father's failed attempt to swim and reach them.

Helmsman Jamie McHale, along with crew members Chris Brompton and Andy Webber, managed to retrieve the girls and their inflatable and transfer them on board the lifeboat before taking them ashore.

The crew offered safety advice to the family at sea before being stood down.
