THE winner of the Mayor’s design a Christmas Card competition has been picked.

Kailee Jenkinson, 10, who attends Hilderthorpe Primary School, was surprised by a visit from Mayor Coun Cyril Marsburg at her school to announce the winner at a special assembly last week.

Kailee’s design is to be the Mayor’s official Christmas card for 2011, and the Mayor has invited her to join him at the Christmas Event on Saturday December 10 to meet the Pantomime Stars of Jack and the Beanstalk.

Kailee’s father Lee Jenkinson, who saw her presented with a certificate and prize by Coun Marsburg, said that he was “very proud” of his daughter.

“It was lovely to see her in front of the assembly and we are all very proud of her winning the competition.

“The school were fantastic and had to sneak us in through the side door so she didn’t suspect anything.”

Lee attended the the assembly at the school to see the presentation along with his wife Anna-Marie, and Kailee’s grandparents George and Val.

“Kailee was really excited to have won, in fact she told her mum after the ceremony that she was shaking before being presented with her prize,” continued Lee.

“She loves arts and crafts, I think she must get it from her mum though!”

Bridlington Town Council received more than 80 entries for this year’s competition - a record amount.

As well as having the card used by Coun Marsburg, Kailee also scooped a £50 Argos voucher, a family ticket to Bridlington Spa’s pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk, and a special certificate.

All of the cards entered are on display in the Promenades Shopping centre on two large boards.
