A BRIDLINGTON restaurant has been fined £5,000 after a UK Border Agency swoop.
Acting on information received a five strong team of officers visited Saffron Indian Cuisine Restaurant in St John’s Street in September where they discovered two Bangladeshi men, one of them aged 21, who was arrested. Neither of them were authorised to work in the UK and both could face deportation.
A UK Border Agency spokesman said: “As a result of a visit carried out at Saffron Indian Cuisine the owner has been issued with a civil penalty of £5,000 for employing illegal workers.
“Investigations into the immigration status of the two men encountered working illegally are continuing.”
The maximum fine the restaurant could have faced was £20,000.
